CAMINO PRIMITIVO

(Statue of D. Alfonso II, the first pilgrim king to Santiago)

The “camino primitivo” – the natural alternative

(mists and hilltops - Borres, Astúrias)

The “Camino Primitivo” represents the first real pilgrimage from the capital of the kingdom os the asturs to the newly found tomb of the apostol St. James (SANTIAGO).

(cathedral of Oviedo - Asturias, Spain)

This is a tough road for the pilgrim since it’s ups and downs, hills and valleys through the mountains don’t leave any moment of rest until well entered the province of Galicia.

(Couple of French pilgrims resting during a journey through Salas - Astúrias)

FIRST DAY: Oviedo/Grado - San Juan de Villapañada - Astúrias

Oviedo it’s a beautiful town to visit.
The “casco Viejo” – the old town – offers a varied view of ancient houses, beautiful spots to have a peaceful meal and the streets filled with “Sidrerias” – the typical Asturian drink with lots of appetizers of the region

(Pilgrims and locals celebrating during the holiday - Oviedo, waiting for the Albergue to open it’s doors)

(Waiting on the queue – the albergue opens at 17h - Oviedo)

(the local holyday: a good excuse to walk over the streets filled with people and joy)

(nice houses and some flowers - a town to walk through - Oviedo)

Entering the real camino means jumping in to the mists and being ready to the ups and downs of the hills
(first steps through the Asturian mists - Oviedo)

Entering the mists we dive in a time shift, old wooden structures to keep the corn and grain, walking shoes made of wood and people who came out of the past to walk the present time roads
(Orreo to keep the grain - Grado)
